Pink Shirt day

Today we celebrated pink shirt day and focused on the role that everyone can play to spread kindness. We have been discussing how our simple acts of kindness can affect others and how it can play a role in our own joy and happiness. To support our learning today we read the book Each Kindness by Jacqueline Woodson. We then discussed what a ripple is and the role that we can play in creating a ripple effect.

As we continue to explore the history of Calgary the students were given some wonderful old photographs. Their job was to work together as a class and decide where they feel the photographs fit in on our timeline. Sorting and Categorizing 2-D and 3-D shapes

Over the last week, we have been extending our review of 2-D shapes to include 3-D shapes. We have discovered the attributes that help us to differentiate between 2-D shapes such as number of sides, vertices, size, and colour. We then discovered ways to categorize 3-D shapes. Several students wanted to extend their learning by knowing how they could put objects together that are different but also have 2 or 3 characteristics that they share. It was through this request that we discovered how handy a Venn Diagram can be.
